Dress Up a Lamp

I wanted a lamp for the baby’s room to cast some soft light on those midnight feeding and changing sessions. I didn’t want to pay a lot for a cutesy lamp, so I got a very simple one ($9.50) from the PX and pinned a stuffed animal a former student had given me around the base. Cute and easy!

Super easy, super cute, super cheap. My mom came up with the idea of using two thrift store stuffed animals as tie-backs for the nursery curtains. Originally, we were thinking monkeys, but the thrift store was having a conspicuous shortage of stuffed monkeys, so we found an adorable tiger and lemur. We took them home, wrapped their arms around the curtains, sewed their hands shut, and now Alex has jungle animals climbing up his curtains. I think they look pretty fun!

I did run across one tip that worked really well. My mother and I found some pre-painted wooden animal cut-outs and wanted to hang them on the walls. Running a nail through them would have ruined them.

Instead, I modified an idea I saw at The First Grade Parade for hanging things so they come off easily. Continue reading
